Acer Aspire One 722 netbook died

I bought an Acer Aspire One 722 11.6" Netbook a few years back. It has 4GB RAM, a 120GB SATA2 SSD (my upgrade), a C-60 APU, and came with Windows 7 64-bit.

I was rather fond of this tiny and slow little thing.

Anyways, I keep it powered-off on my bed, along with some other laptops.

I spilled some seltzer in my bed a week ago. I didn't think it got on the laptops, but it could have possibly leaked in from below, or the exhaust vent on the side I guess.

Anyways, a few days ago, I wanted to reconfigure a router, so I picked up this netbook, and attempted to power it on, and it was dead.

I tried plugging in the AC, removing the battery and plugging in the AC, nothing.

The little LEDs in front that light up when powered on and plugged in / charging etc., don't come on at all when the AC is plugged in.

I'm pretty sure I had the SSD backed up on my server, but it's a bit disconcerting.

I tried (with battery out) holding down the power switch for a while, then plugging in the AC, but that didn't do much either.

I think it's well and good dead, somehow.

Any ideas? I'm not that well-versed in complete dis-assembly of laptops. (My main area of expertise is desktops.)

I would start with verifying the power adapter is working with a multimeter

Actually, I'm using the same power adapter in my Acer V5-131, it's the same model adapter that came with the 722. The adapter still works fine. (Although, the wires are getting a tiny bit unraveled.)

Edit: When I say "works fine", I mean that I plug that exact adapter into my V5-131, and it beeps, and shows the power icon "plugged in and charging".

oh well - so much for the easy stuff 🙂
- thankfully there are lots of Acer One disassembly videos

How bad was the seltzer spill?

How bad was the seltzer spill?
A puddle about a foot and a quarter in diameter.
Possibly up to a half of a 12oz (355mL) can.
Not very deep. That's why I'm surprised it affected the laptop.

yea I can't imagine it doing that much harm if it wasn't powered on at the time
and has had a couple weeks to dry out since then.

Might as well jump in and take a look at the insides
You may even get lucky by doing something like just reseating the memory sticks to help reset it?

I wonder if there's a fuse somewhere protecting the mobo, and if it's replaceable. Guess I'm going to have to crack it open.

Oh man, I feel your pain... My SO and I each got one of those "subnotebooks" (albeit the Intel version) a few years back, for a ridiculous low price and we're still using them on a regular basis (after having maxed out the RAM and installed SSDs)...
