Acer Aspire 3000 missing battery on motherboard

Hey, I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have an Acer Aspire 3000 notebook that won't POST. I dissected her gently looking for anything suspicious and I noticed an empty battery socket on the motherboard. Was this left empty intentionally? Here is a screen-shot of the socket I am referring to. Any response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
