I know nothing about laptop CPUs, is Turion 64 x2 TL50 any good?

I can't find the hard drive speed

Is the Go6100 any good? how does it compare to the 7300go? the x1400?

I'm looking for a realtively inexpensive laptop that will last me foe a while, can run Vista Premium, and lets me run some games should I decide to (I have a main gaming desktop). The main game I play at the moement is Citie of Heroes, but I also like FPS, like DOOM and UT2k4, battlefield 2, FEAR, etc...

I don't expect to be able to run games at full resolution with all the eye candy, but I'd like to be able to play.

I can spend a bit more, but I want to make sure the difference is worth the extra $$. For example would I be better off going with a Dell 1705 T5500 with ATI X1400?

Also I looked at it in the sotre and some of the icons in the taskbar looked wierd (Windows Defender shield icon for example). is it because that those programs didn;pt have icons designed to scale for that resolution?

EDIT: it looks like the TL-50 processor compares to the Core Duo, not the Core 2 Duo? what does that mean in terms of real wolrd performance.

That a pretty nice deal for the specs, but you won't be able to do any gaming on that thing. The 6100go is integrated, and although much better than intel's solution, it wont cut it for the games you want to play.

Look for a laptop with at least a 7600go/MT x1600. The dell e1705 is a nice deal, especially if you can find a coupon. Asus and HP are also worth a look.

In the process of researching the video cards I foudn this guide: http://alexgunawan.wordpress.com/2006/0...tebook-video-graphics-card-guide-2006/

According to it:
- you do NOT want a 900/950 even if you won;t be gaming, because it may not run Vista Premium
- an X1400 will run the current crop of games OK

(and by the way it basically agrees with you that go6100 won;t cut it for games)

I couldn't configure a 1705 with a Core 2 Duo T5500/5600 on Dell'ssite today, even thoughI could a few days ago!
