This was at there B&M stores, 20 instant rebate on Acer 320U and 320P Scanners. Since I needed a basic scanner I thought this was a good deal.

This is a good little scanner, with very fast preview scans with the USB version. Normal scanning is faster than either a Umax or Canon that are in the same price range. It does have Windows 2000 drivers, but not sure about XP.

just wondering, how good are these scanners because i'm also looking for one. I don't mind paying a little bit more as long as i can get my money's worth. thanx.

I have the 620U and I'm very happy with it. Not sure how much of difference there is though. The mirascan software that comes with it is easy to use. I didnt care for the ulead photoalbum software, I use photoshop instead. If you have drivers that work in 2000, you probably can use the same in XP(i havent tried).

brew,
what about the clarity? do you still need to make adjustments when you scan pix? i don't care much about the softwares also, i'm after the ease of use and reliability, of course at an affordable price. am i asking too much???

there are always adjustments that can be made to a picture after its scanned(some can be made with the scanning program like gamma, brightness etc...). The raw scans I get are good. Maybe NeoV could help you more than me. My 620u may have a little better resolution than the 320u.

Not very high res. Finally tracked down the stats for this scanner... U version should be the same except of course the usb interface.
Still not bad for $30.
