You see it??? YOU SEE THE .CA!!!!!!!!!!
He/She is in Canada. Which automatically ='s higher prices.

Both are probably TN (right??, and AFAIK) panels which means they basically suck (to me at least). Are they even true 8-bit?

Your probably better off getting something like the Dell 2007fpw or the Viewsonic VX2025 which are S-IPS and P-MVA panals. (i think) But there both 20.1in WS monitors instead of the 22in. The only other monitor that I can think of is the Samsung which I belive is a 21in (not much of an upgrade and probably not worth the price).

Anyway, the next logical step up from a 20.1in is the 24in monitors. (like the Dell 2407fpw). I would just skip past anything from 21-22in.

A little searching will yield at least 2 other threads w/ plenty of feedback on these two monitors.

I picked up the Acer 22" @ MicroCenter for $299 plus tax and like it a lot.

I'm in the same predicament as rodimus 84.
Both panels seems to be TN. Is there any dramatic quality difference between the two?
I know that the Viewsonic comes with a dvi cable.

@Trey22, I tried searching but was unable to find the "2 other threads," I'd greatly appreciate it if you could post a link.

Thanks,

I own the Acer AL2216WBD and I'm very happy with it. The colors are fantastic, games never looked better and DVD movies look fine but you obviously can't expect plasma quality for 300 bucks can you? I've never personally noticed any ghosting which is awesome since the Acer is an upgrade over a 19" HP CRT that i usd for about 3 years so I'd definitely notice screen lag of any kind. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there's a tiny bit of lag at certain times but I've personally have not noticed after using the Acer 22" for 2 weeks now. I'd also like to add a few other things. The size of the screen is superb and not a problem at all to carry around since it weighs just about 10 pounds give or take. I've read about certain people complaining about the stand not being sturdy and I have to say that unless you're very fat and plan on working out near the LCD, it might start moving around a bit... the height of the screen is about one inch less than a 19" non widescreen LCD so I can live with the stand not being height adjustable. You can still tilt the screen about 15 degrees forwards and backwards which is decent enough. The display controls are very easy to use too. One very last thing I almost forgot to mention, no dead pixels!!!

The Acer and the Viewsonic both use TN panels and have threeyear warranties. Their specs are almost identical. So it really comes down to cost and personal taste. The Acer uses a thin bezel while the bezel around the Viewsonic's sceen is much more sustantial. Some prefer the look of the viewsonic, while others prefer the look of the Acer.

I bought the Acer for $299 at Microcenter, and am very happy with it. COlors are great, and response time is very good. It's a great monitor for the price.

Yep, except I got mine off newegg.

With either one you get im sure you will be happy.

Edit: I just looked at the viewsonic and I would probably pass on it in favor of the acer if I was buying again because of the built in speakers the viewsonic. I would never use them so no point in having something like that on there.

For the Acer, the best price i've found in Canada is here: LINK for $368 plus free shipping right now.....which is actually cheaper than NewEgg when you factor in the exchange rate....although it still ends up being about the same because of the GST.

Or you can get it at NCIX.com for about $10 more but they'll price match it. No free shipping with them but they do have a zero dead pixel guarantee for approximately $20 extra.

I don't like the Viewsonic so i haven't checked prices anywhere but i'd bet it's cheaper at these same two places than it is at Best Buy or FutureShop.

All these new 22-inch monitors, to my knowledge, use the same TN panel from Chi Mei, and they have all the same specs. Even Samsung's 22-incher is selling for less than their own higher-quality 215TW. Of course, control electronics will vary between manufacturers.

Detailed review of the Acer

ah a chi mei panel. thats right all the samsung manufacturered glass is PVA/MVA now. but yeah i'm pretty sure its all the same. basically all you want to look at really is, other things, like bezel, the stand quality, and the OSD control to tune your monitor. some monitor companies skimp on those (especially the stand)
