Acer 1410/1810t owners, does your battery discharge?

I have a 1410 (see sig for specs...), and I've recently noticed that the battery will discharge about 5% per day while the laptop is shut down or hibernated. I know sleep mode will use battery power to keep stuff in ram, but hibernated or shut down shouldn't use anything.

I've been reading the threads over at notebookreview.com forums, and this seems to be a widespread problem... I've had the laptop since february and never noticed because I was using it fairly often, but I recently powered it on after about 2 weeks and the battery was almost dead.

If I take out the battery it keeps most of its charge, maybe losing a few percent a week which is normal. But when I leave it in the laptop, it will drain quickly.

i have the exact same laptop acer 1410 with the same problem.

i also read a few threads saying how windows 7 drains/kills the battery too? not sure but yeah.

doesn't really bother me much but i been using it as a walk around laptop around my house. so i usually plug it in at night, like my cell phones.

Yeah, it's not a huge problem, just annoying when you don't use it for a few days and 1/4 of the battery is gone...

I doubt it's an OS problem, looks to be something with the BIOS. Maybe Wake-On-Lan or a similar feature is enabled by default, but everything's hidden in there so you can't change it.

My 1810tz drains battery quicker than it should in sleep mode. Not sure if thats the case with hibernate or shut down as its normally in sleep or plugged in.

Acer came out with a bios update that may fix this problem. I flashed mine last night and will check the drain in a couple of days.

(I sent mine back for repair hoping they would fix it 6 months ago but was told it was normal!)

Yep, updated to the new BIOS, and just finished charging it to 100%, will post results in 24 hours. 🙂

The new BIOS fixed the battery drain problem for me. More than a day after charging, and it was still at 100%...

Okay, turned it on after 72 hours and I've only lost 5% capacity. Before this new bios I would lose 5-6% per day. A great improvement.
