I think they are all similar. I like WinRAR's interface better. Seems polished to me.

As far as compression is concerned, ACE consistently beats out RAR, but not by much.

Not an answer to your question, but I would just stick with ZIP format because it has the widest support. XP has built-in support for it and there are free UNZIP programs out there. In my tests, ACE and RAR would only shave off a few megs beyond zip format for every 50 megs you archive.

That is not true. I have a Word document which is 5,332,992 byte in size and here are the zipped and rared size:
zip: 2,510,063
rar: 1,778,891
