Accutane - A few questions

I took Accutane a few years back. It worked wonders for me. I never had bad acne, just persistent. Nothing else seemed to help. Accutane cleared me up well with few side effects, just dry skin, etc. Lately my face has started to break out again. I just started taking a second dose of Accutane about a week ago. I have a few questions for those of you who have taken it or are familiar with it. First, are there any negative reactions between Accutane and Creatine? I work out reguarly and take Creatine serum before working out. Secondly, I have heard many different things about alcohol and accutane. The first cycle I took I had no alcohol while I was on it. Now Im not a heavy drinker but like to drink on the weekends at parties and bars. My doctor told me occasionally would be fine. I have heard that other peoples doctors told them not to drink while on the medication. I have seen many contradicting statements online and was wondering if anyone knew anything about it. Thanks

i just finished my 2nd round of it. Isn't it funny how each and every pill holder thing comes with a do not get pregnant logo? :) So don't get pregnant :) I seriously doubt a little alcohol every now and then will hurt you.

hmm i've never had any adverse side-effects except for the chapped lips and dry skin...my eyes were also very sensitive when i was on it...you should ask your derm. the next time you head in for a blood test

i took it a few years ago, and i have always been under the impression that any decent amounts of alcohol dranken while on it would not be good. the reason behind this is because accutane works on your liver in its treatment, and that is what you get your blood drawn to be tested - your liver functions. soooo, drinking and taking accutane would be a very bad idea at least in any sort of larger quantities.

if your taking creatine at hte same time, i would be VERY CAREFULL.

Accutane is a dehydrator in itself... that chapped skin etc is partly because of the lack of moisture that is being removed from your skin.

creatine works by pumping more water into your muscles, but accutane is allready taking away water...

you are sorta getting a double wammy impact.

my only advice to this is: drink water.

YAh yah yah i know, everyone says that... drink water if your on creatine, drink water just for the hell of it, drink water cuz its good for you, drink water cuz it will make you feel full and you will loose weight, blah blah blah....

but seriously, you could suffer some really sh!tty kidney/liver effects if you ever screw up and get too deyhydrated with this stuff.

I work out as well, and was on accutane, but my doctor highly suggested I didnt combine the both, ie creatine and accutane. And i havnt.

In fact I havnt been on acutane for about 2 years now (was on it for 3 years before that) and yah, just recently i have started to break out, but what i have found to help is to take a potent vitamin A/D multimineral, i take 3 or 4 pills a day twice daily.... its starting to work quite nicely. I'm trying to avoid accutane if at all possible.

so, my only adice is to take it easy, don't over do your creatine, and definitly cycle on cycle off and give yoru body a break

I did a lot of research into Accutane a few years back. I wish I could remember it!

Anyhow, watch your kidneys. Do the blood tests they tell you to do. Seriously. I would never recommend that drug unless your acne was quite severe.

So as long as I stay hydrated should I be okay? I drink lots of water as it is and have upped the amount lately so I can stay hydrated.

Take MrsSkoorb advice get the blood work done, (i.e. monthly). It is really hard for the liver to
filter out the the drug sometimes (high amounts of vit. A), it has the potential to do
some damage to your liver. If you add alcohol into the mix, which is also hard on your liver it
is not a good mix. Accutane runs through the body fairly quickly so if you are going out Sat. night, I would not take any after Friday.

Well Ive already done one cycle of Accutane so Im not too concerned with the depression aspect even though that could be a possibilty. I also plan on getting the blood work done.
