Accurate CPU Temp Monitor

I'm comparing the readings of cores idle/load from
1.Coretemp: 38/50
2. Intel TAT: 37/50
3. Speedfan: 20/38
4. PC Probe II (came with my P5W DH): 20/38

Which ones are the accurate ones? I'm absolutely confused.
 
First off, what are you specs?

Second off, when you find out let me know.

I have a C2D e4300 and have similar problems. Speedfan/Easytune(came with MB), and teh older core temp all are 10-15C cooler than TAT/newer core temp.

I have no clue which is right. Seems they are all wrong in at least some ways because I have my CPU set to shut down if it hits 70C and TAT/Coretemp(new version) both show my CPU hit 72C at load but nothing shuts down, so those can not be correct.
 
they are all right. ever heard of tcase and tjunction temperatures?

speedfan and probe report tcase temperatures, which are taken from a diode placed directly under the middle of the IHS.

core temp and TAT report tjunction temperatures, which are taken from a diode placed directly on (or behind rather) the core(s) of the cpu.

on a regular basis for core 2 processors, tjunction temperatures will be ~15C higher than tcase temps. therefore your temperatures are all being reported correctly. what you have to worry about is when 2 programs that should report the same temperature (either tcase or tjunction) report different temps. for example if core temp and TAT reported different temps, then you should be wondering which one is right.

60C should be your limit for tcase. intel states that tcase limit for core2/4mb is 60.1, while core2/2mb is 61.4. try to keep your tcase under that.

but you need to keep an eye on your tjunction too, as it will always be higher than tcase. intel states that tjunction for core 2 should not go above 85C. At 85C thermal shut down will occur.

the closer your tjunction is to your tcase, the more efficient your cooling is. its impossible to have no delta between tcase and tjunction. from my findings, core 2 processors seems to have a 15C delta between tcase and tjunction. therefore, a 60C tcase means 75C tjunction. I would not go above that.

no, that doesn't mean thats your safe temperature. all I said was that core 2 cpus usually have a delta of 15C between tcase and tjunction. dont misinterpret what I say.
 
When you say IHS, do you mean the stock intel heat sink that comes with the chip? ... so if I get an after market chip (like the tuniq tower) the program will be displaying wrong tcase temperatures?
 
For C2D, TAT is more accurate but Coretemp is more practical (sits on the tray).
I like to always monitor my temps so it works better for me.


I think we need a sticky for this one, far too many threads asking for which one is better...including mine 😉
