accuracy of temps from motherboard readings

i have a 3000+ on a dfi board, and a zalman 7000alcu, and no matter what i do it reads around 48c cpu and 25c case temps with the case door off. i just got this board so at first i figured that i hadnt seated the hsf properly or didnt apply the thermal paste right but i redid both with no improvements. i havent oced yet, and my case has 3 80mm stealths and an antec 430 with two 80s in it. could it is just off on its readings. it seems like most people are in the 30s low 40s with a similar setup and im kind of worried.

Temps dont matter, because they are almost always read wrong by the bios, and the bios is where programs such as mbm5 read the temps from.

Run Prime95 overnight and see if you get an error, if you don't then you computer is stable and you should just ignore the temps. As long as its stable, nothing else really matters.

i set bumped it up to 2.2ghz and am running prime 95 right now. it says the temps are 65 cpu and 30ish system, but its been going for half an hour on the torture test with no problems so far. i guess ill see in the morning.

temp monitors are notoriously screwy, my asus probe software get's ridiculously xcited when i run s2kctl (which is all the time), and shows my cpu temp falling so quickly when idle that it's 2 good 2 b true, and dropping to within a degree of the mobo temp...which i don't believe 😛

A good rough guide (very rough) is to carefully place a couple fingers on a nice flat bit of the hsf (easy with a old stock AXP hsf like mine) when u r at full load- if it's 2hot 2 keep your fingers on its prob >55'c, but as said above, as long as ur stable it should all be good providing ur not actually burnin up 🙂
