Accpetable Orthos Temps on C2D

My temps in Coretemp fluctuate between 55 and 60 when running Orthos and I was wondering if that is ok. Got an XP-90 HSF on the cpu. Also, how long should I let orthos run to make an OC be considered stable? Looking for the least amount of time. Thanks.

55-60 is acceptable, but I wouldn't let it go above 60 much if at all. I'd say 12 hours orthos stable means things are stable enough. Usually people have it run overnight, but never any longer then 24 hours. Theres contradicting posts on different forums though, 1 article I read on OC-ing and cpu life expectancy, even went as far as saying that Orthos doesn't mean jack, some of his OC's wouldn't be orthos stable for an hour, but he could play games or encode just fine. Usually orthos is a good indicator though :)

What did you OC and how high did you OC it ? How high is the vcore ?

Got it at 2.8 Ghz right now. I had it at 3 Ghz and Prime95 was stable but I noticed issues with video so I backed down to 2.8. I've started using Orthos now since it stresses both cores. Vcore is 1.45 at the moment and I'm going to leave it there as I check how high I can go. BTW, orthos' small fft test is making the temps go up to 65 degrees and I've read that stresses out the cpu more hence the higher temps. Which test should I use to simulate real pc usage? Some say blend but others like large fft. Not sure which would be better for me.

Allright, I don't know what you do with your PC btw, but usually playing games and such won't get your temps up like orthos does. Best thing would be to just log your CPU temps while you do what you usually do, play games, browse and whatever it is you do.

70 is the danger zone, so 60ish is probably a good place to max out comfortably. If you want to do a true heat test, use Intel TAT and click both cores to 100% usage. It will give you probably 5 degrees more than Orthos and is the best check for max thermal range.

Just FYI, you can open up 2 instances of Prime95 and set the affinity to 0 and 1 for each core. They will be working independently and in the background depending on your settings.
