Accountants: Is it illegal to be on a company payroll if you dont work there?

What if the company has three partners and and two of the partners have their wives on the payroll with the accountant aware but the third partner unaware

I'd say the thirds partners getting screwed and and the other partners could most likely get into some trouble and sued.

that does not sound illegal per se but obviously shady since they are hiding this from the third partner and if they are not stealing from the company aside from being on the payroll i would expect it to happen in the future. You should tip off the third partner for sure.

I researched this a little bit because I wanted to pay my daughter so I could out money in a Roth for her. Everything I found said that they had to be doing legitimate work for justifiable salary. You can't pay them for being cute, etc.

My daughter is 2, so it is harder to justify paying her to do the yard.
