I work with a bunch of accountants and today I overhear one of them on the phone with a car dealer. She's looking at a car, asks the price, get's the price, and then asks what the monthly payments would be(financed, not a lease).

Uh....hello. You're an accountant, you do the math! They make these things called "payment calculators" and other things called "amorization charts". Sheesh! I know that being an IT guy doesn't exactly make me a know it all of everything IT related, but at least I know the basic principals of the IT field.

I ask tech support questions I already know the answers to so that I can figure out whether I can trust them to correctly answer my real issues.

Maybe this is a similar situation.

My friends sister-in-law is a high school math teacher in Orange County North Carolina. She didn't understand how a more expensive car with 0% financing could be cheaper than a more less expensive car with 3.9% financing.

The question you should be asking yourself is why would this accountant you work for calculate that stuff herself when the person she is talking to likely has the information right in front of them. Why waste your own time doing a calculation yourself when someone else already did it and included all the fees?

I would pull out my financial calculator and figure it out myself since I don't trust the dealer.
