Accountability in America, where has it gone?

A friend recently sent a joke email around the office that poked fun at just how bad we have gotten in this country about avoiding responsibility. Things like parents suing schools for not handing out condoms when their daughter gets pregnant... that sort of thing. Patients suing doctors for malpractice after saving their life because they still suffered some long term effects.

This whole thread on the shooting has got me wondering, where has our self-responsibility gone as a society? Why can't people be held accountable any longer? People always seek to blame someone else for their fvuckup.

What can we do to make people more responsible? More rigid enforcement of the laws already on the books? Public mockings and beatings for parents who can't raise their children?

Just curious.

I am also bery curious... But to be able to solve a problem, you have to know how it started... I have no idea what made people think that they can blame everything on someone or something... Everything IMO, happens for a reason, and when people can't figure out what that reason is, I feel like they just make something up so that they don't have to wonder why anymore... Does that make sense any sense at all?

My questions - has accountability ever even been around? Most humans are stupid and do what they can to help their pathetic existences. Its just human nature for the majority of the imbeciles we have to share this life with *shrug*.

Well maybe 40 years of the great society programs have something to do with it. Nowadays if there is a problem "dont worry big brother will solve it" (loosely translated they'll only make things worse). Case in point just look at the mess called the public education system. Forget the idea of parents disciplining their kids anymore, try that and the PC police will be knocking on your door with a lawsuit in hand and case workers ready to take your kids away.

Well said gunf1ghter!

I get so sick of the liberals in this country touting "it's not your fault!" People get away with so much in this day and age. My wife works as a second grade school teacher and she observers so many abuses to "the system." The parents expect my wife to be their kids parent. Most of her students get free lunches because they are supposedly from "low income" households, but then she watches as mommie comes to pick up poor, ratty-looking little Jonny in her brand new Ford Expedition! :disgust:

Lemonhead,

I agree with you.... I have been very, very poor in my life and when you are in that situation you are very frightened of doing anything that could get you in trouble or cost you your job.

As I have struck out on my own and started doing "well in life" I have noticed that many people in the same income bracket as myself seem to have a rather strange phenomenon in trying to "rig the system" in their favor.
