Hi,

New to this forum, unsure of whether this is the correct forum for this message, but I am trying to find out the maximum number of accounts that you can have on either XP Home or XP Pro (if there is a difference?).

I am the Administrator of a shared PC that is accessed by approx 30 users. I need to have some sort of account management for security purposes. I do not want to start shelling out lots of cash on software if I can just simply add 30 accounts with individual passwords.

Many thanks for any information in advance.

Paul.

I don't know of any limit on the number of accounts you can create, but XP Home will only allow 5 simultaneous connections, and XP Pro will only allow 10.

In other words, 30 users is stretching it for XP. You would be better off with a server OS.

I THINK he is talking about 1 computer that 30 people log into locally, not access over a network.

Thanks for replying Stash. The PC (only one) will be used by one user at a time, therefore I am confused when you say Home will only allow 5 simultaneous connections. The user will logon with his/her own password, and logoff, allowing another user to logon under their own username on the same PC. This is only to protect me as the administrator, so I know who logged on at what time etc., if I needed to know. We use AOL (2 screen-names, mine and a standard user) to access the internet, hope this makes sense!

Many thanks,

Paul.

Ah ok...DnetMHZ was correct then. I was referring to connections made over the network to the machine. XP Home only supports 5 and XP Pro supports 10. But as far as one user logging on interactively (sitting in front of the machine) at a time, there shouldn't be a problem.
