According to Tom's sources, R520 = fantastic.

New architecture interesting! They mean WGF1.0 Unified Shader right?

A 16 pipe card with unified shaders would run like trash, even at those clockspeeds.

In honor of Tom's Hardware and the Inq and Creig and Ackmed, I have one thing to say:

The R520 will beat the 7800 Ultra by 3000 3d2005 marks. Trust me, I've tested both myself.

Here's to you, Ackmed. :wine:

"I've personally tested the R580, and I can honestly say it beats out the G70 GTX by some wide margins." -- Creig

I swear, things have to be weirder in here than OT some days... what a tight-knit little community there is here 😛

R520? Is it out yet? No. So who cares at this point? 🙂

*edit - that said, of course I will read any article that claims to have any info on it right up until it is released, and any self respecting poster in the video forum will probably do the same, I suppose....*

Amazing isn't it? Someone who prefers nVidia will still not allow his bias to tarnish the image of another company or product. That person is me, and I sincerely hope that ATI puts out a card that can blow my GeForce 7800 GTX out of the water... I can only hope 😀

me 2

I think it's the other way around. We needed nVidia to blow ATi out of the water so that ATi gets its s***ty act together to get out some new chips.

Not sure where you've been, but Nvidia released the 7800GTX in that time frame, and it did blow ATI out of the water. It makes the X850XT look like paper mache.

When ATI gets R520 out, if it beats the 7800GTX, then we can start talking about Nvidia's response (which is doubtless in the works already).

Until then it's ATI that need to catch up to stay competitive.

That said, I was thinking about it this way. A card with 16 pipelines running a core at 700MHz would be pretty close to a 24-pipeline card running 450MHz core (assuming similar pipeline efficiency). So if ATi really does get R520 running 700MHz it is likely to be very, very close to current 7800GTX offerings. But I have serious doubts they can get the core that high, especially considering the silicon has already been reworked 3+ times. At this point, they are going to be lucky to get anything out.

I'm a performance fanboy. I don't care if ATi or nVidia has the upper hand (albeit I've always preferred nVidia because of the drivers), I just want the best performance. And the competition is great for us because it lowers prices and brings new technology to us faster.

It dont matter, they'll just take turns blowing each other out of the water, and hopefully the competition will keep the prices reasonable.

I never made a statement even CLOSE to that. g3pro is simply making things up in an attempt to direct attention away from HIS original statement of:

Look about 1/2 way down for g3pro's statement.

g3pro is just some little 13 year old who wishes he had a GTX, R520, or R580 so he makes up comparisons.

g3pro, either remove that fabricated quote from your sig or I WILL contact the Moderators and ask them to remove it for you. If you want to quote something I've actually said, then that's up to you. But I'm not going to sit here and let you post made-up crap that makes me look as bad as you.

Creig go ahead and contact the moderator, jacka$$es like g3pro needs a good vacation.

QFT.

QFT? What do you know about the truth?

Personally I think this should amount to a BAN, what a POS.

If you didn't want me to quote you, then you shouldn't have intonated the essence of what is written. I agree though, it's not a direct quote, so I won't use quotations, but the material of it still stands.

Fine, if you won't remove it we'll see if the Moderators will. I've never said anything even CLOSE to resembling what's posted in your sig while what I did post was a DIRECT QUOTE of yours.

It is indeed the essence of quite a few posts of yours. Just do a search of your previous posts and you'll see what I'm talking about.

But stop derailing this topic, Creig. This isn't about profiles. This is about ATi making a 32-pipe card to beat out the G70.

Personally, I'm really excited about ATi's new product and I'm probably going to buy it within the next few weeks.

After weeks of delay, final silicon of ATI's next graphic chip generation, code-named R520, apparently made it through the production line. According to sources, quality and performance of the chip exceed initial expectations, allowing the company to announce serious competition for Nvidia's 7800 GTX possibly in a matter of weeks.

So this means at least a one more month delay? so October? November?

well now g3pro, i'd like to see where you get this 32 pipe number from as well. You sure have quite a bit of numbers and quotes to account for.

Edit: I have no doubt, that ONE DAY ATi will bring out a 32 pipe vid card to beat the G70 GTX. However, I'd like to see a link saying this card will comeout within the 2005 calendar year. Just had to make sure I covered all the bases and was clear.

It'll probably be on sale immediately after announcement since ATi taped out earlier in the summer and they probably have nice stockpiles of chips ready to go. I'd say early October at the very latest for purchasing the R520.

I don't know if you realize that ATi had to recently retape the 520, was it early august? I'm not to sure, besides the fact that the information was from The Inq. and not any review sites or anyone credible. Either way, are you saying the 520 will be a 32 pipe card and will be released this october?

Didn't ATi say that they were implementing 16 xTreme pipes? That could be equal anything from 24-48 pipes. I'm thinking that ATi's been working really hard on getting the xTreme pipes to work simultaneously in rhythm, and that they've finally synced them up properly. 32 pipes is a low-ball estimate of the equivalency factor to nVidia pipes.

I guess time will tell.
