According to Nordic Hardware 9900 IS NOT GT200

I thought the 9800GT was supposed to be a G92 die shrink and the 9900gtx was actually GT200

Seems weird. I mean, NV has saturated the market with half a dozen G80/G92 SKUs at roughly the same performance level. They can't possibly expect that squeezing another 5-10% out of the exact same chip (through higher clocks, maybe) would be compelling enough for people to upgrade. Even though they don't have to compete with ATI, nv still has to compete with itself if there's any hope of continuing earnings momentum.

Definetly possible, it would kind of wierd for the 9800 to be g92 based and the 9900 to be a whole new architecture.

55nm doesn't make a huge difference except you can be sure it sucks a lot less power for the same crappy performance.

Cheaper, less power, higher clock speeds and maybe 1-5% better performance.

But still if true then it could be a full 2 years before we get a new architecture from nVidia.

If G80 refresh architecture is reaching 55nm though, why is GT200 going back to 65nm?

Who cares about naming conventions ?
[although i am actually "studying" them in all the Wikis]
---it could be x800 series for all the crap-all we know
:Q

NAW! .. they are just confused .. let me try and explainit as i see the strategy [which is brilliant btw]

--i think some variation of 10000 GTX .. for the top line > .55 nm [new architecture - GT-200] for the ultimate :p

.. and 9900 for the .65 nm for the cheap but powerful midrange - "kinda" new architecture - GT-100

it now *looks like* GT100 turns out to be the .65 nm 9900 series [upper/mid] - i.e. the respun downsized cheap cooler core of G94>G92[b? wtf?]
-- but that is just ME and my dirty glasses .. if you got 9900GTX kicking r700's Ass .. what is the .55 nm GT200 GT10000GTX-Ultra-X2 gonna do?

i think NVIDA wins at all price points for '08 .. otoh AMD competes on price and does have a nice IG MB [watch out!] and CrossfireX .. but then again, for AMD it is "only a graphics division" - the dessert .. not their bread and butter

Well Nvidia has said in press release that it will launch GT200 this summer. It would be weird now that 9800 GT will use G92b..and if that storie is correct it would mean that Nvidia would release at July 9800 GT with G92b and 9900-series with..G92b and GT200 based cards..doesn't add up.

As i see it ... g94/92 [9800] becomes g92b [9900] - .65 NM (ultimately .55 .. and below), right?
- their new cheap Midrange GT100

GT200 is their new architecture and will be .55 nm (ultimately .42 or what is next?) - their top line
-the 10,000 series [cleverly named]

Conclusion:
GT100 + GT200 = Massive Assault on AMD Graphics on all fronts and at all price points .. Danger!! .. Warning! (Hector and) Will Robinson! .. Danger !!

... data sufficient .. analysis is complete ... thank-you for your assistance ...

betcha

now it adds up ..
- i think i mentioned it before, why bother with nordic HW when you got me here? :p
:D

now watch them fix their "mixed info"

So they would have both 9800 and 9900 cards with G92b 55nm and actually these cards would launcha at same time, but why name one of those cards with 9800 moniker?

PR .. it will be respun cheaply - clearly "new" .. why not 9900?
-aren't some of then still g94? [the respin and cut down of G80?]

unrelated .. and i *had* to change again .. sorry, i am P.O'd at my cat :|

Let's *look* at it and i will bold the changes i think are right:

VR-Zone first revealed Nvidia's plan to shift from 65nm to 55nm to lower costs and we have also told you a series of 55nm based mobile graphics GPUs based on G94b and G96b. Now we learned that the first desktop graphics card to be based on 55nm G92b core will be GeForce 9900 GT and it will be launched in July along with the rest of GeForce 9900 series. 9900 GT will support Hybrid Power. Apparently, GeForce 9800 GTS will be OEM and phased out

here is the original .. and i think it makes sense my way;

The *new* GT200 -Two Hundred series - 10,000 [maybe] - is still a couple of months off - to be Paper-launched with the published specs the day r700 is launched.

NVIDIA knows how to rain on someone else's parade - but i think they should *forget AMD* and think about Intel ;)
