According to many health "experts" I should be dead

Everyday my fat consumption consists of:

1 cup of full fat yogurt: ~8 g of fat
3 tbs of peanut butter: ~24 g of fat
3 tbs of blue cheese dressing: ~16 g of fat
Full fat cheese: ~15 g of fat
Pecans: ~25 g of fat

Plus I eat low-carb, full fat ice cream from time to time and meat or fish every lunch and dinner.

If you believe all of the hype from the fat fanatics, I should be an overweight, unhealthy slob.

But while I've been on this high fat diet:

I've gone from >23% BF to 12% BF
My HDL has doubled: 35 to 75
My triglycerides have gone down 4x: 200 to 40

And the fat numbers above are just estimates; they could be a little higher!

I'm healthier now than I've ever been in my life.

Ironic, huh?

But there's not much saturated fat, that's the killer. In combination with a reduced calorie (read Atkins) diet it looks normal to me...

Not trying to be an ass but haven't you posted about this same thing multiple times? I feel like I remember you making a similar post months ago. If not then I am sorry. Just didn't see a reason to create a new post about the same topic if you have already talked about it.

The big profit margins are in processed foods. It's in the best interest of the food conglomerates to push fat-free foods. It doesn't help that a lot of health professionals reinforce the concept even though it's based on junk science.

Seems like at least 1/2 of the fat you are eating is not neccessarily bad for you. Cheese, Yogurt, Nuts, Peanut Butter all have a lot of fat but you need some fat in your diet and these aren't that bad at all. The dressing is probably the only really bad one. I'd say this is a better diet than 4 twinkies and a 6 pack of cola per day.

Maybe something similar; I don't remember what I posted yesterday. I just happened to count up all the fat I've been eating and it surprised me how much I was actually consuming.

Hey, it could be YAGT.;)

The amount of disinformation just really bugs me and this is my latest passion.

I just noticed that the dressing has soy bean oil. I've been alerted about the soy scare so that probably isn't so great.

There is so much BS when it comes to health it's not even funny. Here's my "system" that I'm convinced would work fine for almost anyone if they actually tried it.

I eat pretty much whatever I want. I don't smoke, but I drink fairly often. The key is, I exercise, both running/biking and weight lifting pretty often. Seems to work fine for me :)

Yippee, yappee, yahooee.........

Congratulations and don't break your arm patting yourself on the back..........

But what you're conveniently leaving out is over half your fat intake is vegetable fat, not animal fat.....and animal fat is MUCH worse for you than vegetable derived sources.

Second, over half the fat you're taking in is unsaturated fat, and while unsaturated fat isn't great in massive quantities, which you're NOT eating, it's not the fat that's directly contributable to LDLs. The saturated fat you're ingesting is less than half of what you've got listed in grams...........so I think you really need to do some more research about what is and isn't "good" fat before lauding "junk science" over everyone else with that high-and-mighty attitude.

And like someone said, we NEED fat in our diet......we NEED cholesterol for our bodies to function normally. For instance, the body utilizes cholesterol to derive its various regulatory hormones. So, strut like a peacock in heat all you want.......you're just showing your butt while you spread your tail.

If its work for you great, if not then switch to something that'll work. Which why I don't understand a lot of "expert" trying to discredit Atkins diet.

if you take in less calories than you expend you lose weight. it isn't that complicated. it doesn't matter if the calories come from fat or whatever.

Seems to me you've never tried to lose a significant amount of weight. ;)

I can gain weight just smelling something fattening.

Still trying to lose the weight I gained over Christmas with a low fat, low carb diet and lots of exercise.

It won't help when I go on my cruise in a month. I gained 18lbs on the the last cruise.

never had to. but I am down 7 lbs since the first of the year. no matter what plan you're on it is impossible to lose weight unless you consume less than you expend.
