My friend is gonna get a car this weekend. He wants a 2-door. I suggested either the Altima (4-door) or the RSX (2-door). I'm gonna send him a link to this thread, so please give your opinions with your pros and cons. thanks.

Wow. He wants a 2 door and you recommended an Altima? What are you going to do? Rip two of the doors off?

well, if he wants to get an accord, the altima is better. if he wants a 2-door, the RSX is better.

Wow, what a coincidence. I was planning on getting a car this weekend too, either and accord coupe or an rsx. I did some shopping around, and basically, I think a better deal is the accord. You can get close to invoice on an accord coupe ex v6, which is around 22,5000, 0 down, 2.9% financing. However, most of the acura dealerships wanted 20000 for the base RSX. Your friend should definitely test drive both cars and haggle as much as possible. Take a look at the dealership's lot and see if there are lots of cars in them, as you can use that as a bargaining chip. And make sure you get any offers in writing, so that you can also use that as a bargaining tool at other dealerships. Whatever you do, don't make it an implusive buy, or be forced into buying by the dealer.

<< tell him to wait a few more months and get the new nissan Z >>

he needs to get a car NOW. his car was stolen. besides, the Z is out of his price range.

<< Well, the problem is that you suggested 2 very different cars...... >>

i know. one is a sedan, the other is a coupe. i don't think that the accord coupe does very well at either, that's why i suggested the alternatives.

RSX. Nothing against Accords, but the current one is a lame duck. It's replacement is due in a few months.

From the above, RSX. But seriously, no true hardcore auto fanatic would consider this car.

I was in the same situation about 3 months when my 12yr old Integra with 220,000 miles started to give me problems. I pretty much made up my mind on getting the Accord based on how reliable my Integra has been the last decade. Just out of whim, my friend of mine told me to test drive a new Altima. I basically told him what the heck was he smoking, why would I want that funky little car? I was totally unaware that Nissan had redesigned the whole car. So that afternoon we went to a Nissan dealership and test drove the 3.5 SE.

All I can say is that afternoon in the Altima change my whole outlook. I was in love with this car. While I was driving the car, the sales guy told me it had 240 horses underhood. I looked at him with a blank stare and gasp, "You got to be sh!tting me! This car has 240 horses!!. He said it sure does. Go ahead and give it alittle gas. So I did. My smile got wider and wider as I was going faster and faster!!! This car is freakin fast!!! Before I knew it I was going 95mph on the freeway. A week later, I was a proud owner of a 3.5 SE.

I say before you buy any car, you have to go and test drive it. Yeah it may sound obvious, but I was all set to buy the Accord without giving another car a chance. Your friend has quite a delimma. All three cars are great choices. I guess it basically depends on whats your friends needs are. If you need a big car and you have to buy one now and you can't wait. I say get the Altima. The Altima, hands down outperforms the V6 Accord. Some say the interior is cheap and I have to say they have a point, but its noway as bad as some suggests. I a few months the 2003 Honda Accords should be comming out and this disscussion may not hold true, but like you say if you need a big car and its between the Accord and Altima get the Altima.

Price wise, you can't beat the Honda's financing since you know they are making room for the new 2003's. I actually got my Altima below invoice price, but you really have to find a dealership that is willing to work with you. The majority of the Nissan dealers are crooks. Don't listen to their cr@p about markup and don't pay anything more than a few hundred dollars over invoice. One dealer was asking $27012 for a 3.5SE thats about $3000 over invoice. I walked out of that place and found another dealer.

The RSX is a different beast all together and I'll let somebody else tell you about it since I basically didn't do any shopping for that car.

All in all, I say have fun with it. Maybe I'll see you someday sucking my exhaust as I blow by you:D

If you interested, here is a message board where us Altima guys hang out..

The Altima will smoke both these cars in the straights.
but given that he needs a 2 door now, I'd go for the RSX.

If he could wait, the Z can be had for a couple thousand more (~$26k well equipped given no dealer markup) with a lot more performance :D

ha! no dealer markup on a high demand car like the 350Z will be. at least that engine should be heading to the max. 300HP i would think, just looking at it.

I personally think the RSX is pretty damn ugly. But if he wants the impression that he has a fast car, go with the RSX.

The Accord is more of a sophisticated feel. As someone said I believe you are comparing two different kinds of cars.

Maybe a Impreza 2.5RS VS RSX will be more like it.

And if you're going with an Accord, consider Altima. I heard their sound system is top 2 in Edmunds and I heard a lot of good things about that car. Voted Editor's choice for mid-size sedans. I think the Altima is pretty damn big for me to drive around. I know I'll hit something.

I would not buy the Altima unless it was a great deal. Other than Maximas, Nissan has a relatively shotty quality and reliability record (not to mention it's a major revision). One of the car mags just did a comparo: Altima SE, Camry SE, Accord SE, Taurus SEL . . . personally I think the ONLY thing good about the new Altima is the engine. Honda will probably give you a good deal. Honda Plus will likely laugh in your face if you ask for a significant discount from list.

JD Power and Associates ranked the Altima #1 in quality last year.....over the Camry and Accord.

Can you even get the Altima with a 5-speed manual? That's what I would want to know...

Yes you can.

Here's the article from Edmunds about stock sound systems......Stereo Review
Can you believe a Ford Mustang beat out everybody?:Q I have the Bose system and I am really happy with it. My friend and I both test drove the IS300 and BMW 330 and we thought the stereo systems in both of those cars suck balls. I think they were Pioneer and Harmon Kardon respectively.

Any more questions? :D

i'd much rather have a maxima over the altima, aren't they nearly the same price?

Pricing for 2002 Nissan Maxima:

Retail Price Range $24,699 - $27,099
Invoice Price Range $22,326 - $24,354

2002 Nissan Altima:

Retail Price Range $16,349 - $22,349
Invoice Price Range $15,718 - $20,319
