Accidently froze bottle of wine...

Hey guys, I'm 23 and 'newer' to this wine business. Last night I stuck a bottle of Riesling in the freezer to cool it off quicker (I was going to have a drink). I then forgot about it and went out to dinner with some friends. On the way home I realized "Oh Crap! I left the wine in the freezer." So I return home, the bottle had uncorked, but nothing too messy.

I am now wondering, once wine goes through a phase change (ie frozen) how will its taste now be affected ? Is it pretty much going to taste the same, or is this kinda like beer you accidently leave outside in 90+ degree heat, direct sunlight that gets ruined ?

Thanks in Advance !

you can probably still cook with it, but i wouldn't drink it unless i were desperate for a buzz

I vote for trying it. If you don't like it, then freeze it again. Shave off some of the frozen wine. Then try eating the frozen crystals (I've never tried this with wine but it is great with many other drinks alcoholic or not). Report back with your findings.

riesling should be okay.

but hmm, if it uncorked and sat amidst a bunch of frozen foods, it might have picked up some weird odors that would offset it's taste. not to mention being aerated like that.

so yeah, desperate for a buzz = game on
developing your palate = ehhhh.

I would think that any "drastic" change like that would it's characteristics. Only one real way to find out, thaw it, drink it and then buy another and don't f*ck it up and compare.

It will be fine aside from the possibility of picking up any freezer odors. There was a guy on PBS who did a wine tasting show and he actually recommended freezing unused wine.

Accurate? rofl, never heard of a drink being described that way before.

Hey bob, how is the coffee today?

A little more accurate than yesterday.

I think it would be find, except for that entire becoming opening. It will pick up the flavors in your freezer which is bad news. I really don't think the typical home freezer would get cold enough to really screw around with the chemistry of the wine - assuming you let it warm up before you drank it.
