Just got a used 2.8c chip in the mail today, checked it for bent pins & set it down. I decided to put some AS on my current 1.8a & got a phone call right after I cleaned it off. Of course, after hanging up I picked up the 2.8c put AS on it & put it in my 845PE board. So I booted up, went into the bios to check the temp on my "1.8a" w/ the new AS on it & the compter turned itself off before I could get very far in the bios... So I turned the computer back on & it turned itself off before I could even get to the bios.

I wondered what the heck was going on when I realized my mistake  I don't have my new motherboard yet so I can't check the chip... Is it okay??

I'm so stupid...

The chipset indeed does try to run it at 800fsb, it just fails to.

It doesnt OC the chip at all, so it should be fine.

The 845 motherboars are more than capable of running 200fsb, in fact I am sure the latter boards were even updated for official support.

Okay, I "officially" put it back in. The problem was that my heatsink wasn't positioned properly or something & so the processor wasn't making proper connection.

Running fine at 189 fsb, 2.84GHz with HT turned on - won't run with stability over that speed... Have the power requirements changed from the 1.8a to the 3.0c which is causing it stay at this speed (motherboard goes up to 250 fsb)?

Anyway, even with a slight increase in speed from the overclock I was running with the 1.8a my system is more responsive (which I wasn't expecting) & I'm able to run multiple intensive tasks which I was previously unable to to because of resource usage.

Now to get a new board + 512MB additional ram + a SATA drive...
