Accidentally installed windows on top of existing windows

Ok so when I booted winxp pro, I got a blackscreen on boot. I decided to pop in the xp cd and try to repair it. But when I got to the part where it showed my two partitions (C: and D: ) for the drive, it didn't show any "press repair" key. Instead, I accidentally pressed the "copy windows files to C:". =( Luckily I didn't press the "format C: and install windows files". Now I seem to have a bigger problem. I don't have any files which are really important on my C: partition (except I really want to save my bookmarks from firefox) but all my files that I want are on my D: partition. Now I have a freshly install windows which btw doesn't recognize the total size of my harddrive which is 320gigs. It doesn't recognize my D: drive and doesn't show any files from my previous windows on my C: drive.

My question is my files on my d: drive lost? and how can I retrieve them? How can go back to my previous install windows and retrieve my bookmarks from firefox?

put this problem on hold as I've seem to found a solution when pressing f8 and telling windows to goto last good configuration
