I acidentally erased a movie clip that was on my camera. I havent taken any pictures since, is there a way to get it back? On a Canon A70.

not familiar with that camera...what media does it use?

there are utilities for getting deleted data off of CF cards and such

Unless the delete function of the cam writes new/random data over the entire data span that used to be the movie, there's GOT to be a way to get it back...

getdataback - runtime.org/gdb.htm

i've used it at home, recovered a lot of files

it says it works on CF cards (assuming you have a CF drive on your pc)

No, I have that camera and it doesn't mount the disk. I wish it did.

Get a CF reader if you want the data back.

Yup, as long as you haven't written data onto the cards they are almost fully recoverable.

I used to use Digital Image Recovery, they've made it shareware now but you can find the older freeware version if you look around. Very basic but gets the job done. I've even recovered partial images from many months ago after I had reformatted and written data on the card many times.

I recently started using Smart Recovery and it's given me great results. It's freeware and seems a little more powerful than DIR, though it has a 2GB limit so I'm finding it useless on my 4GB MD.

And you will need to get a card reader.

The way the Canon works, is it shows up as a USB peripheral. What you need is a CF reader, which can be had for around $10. That way, the card reads as a removable drive.

A few pics were deleted off the card in my camera. Popped it into a card reader for the PC and the pictures were recoverable.

I accidentaly deleted some off my Sony P10 (512 memory stick pro) and recovered all of those plus photos from weeks before with some program. Don't have access to work, but if you haven't solved it by 7, I'll post what I used.

Of course, with 512, its hard to fill up the card with new pictures, so lots of data was probably left untouched.

Sigh, don't post if you don't know.

You'll need a way to access the CF as a normal drive (like a usb/cf adapter). Then any program that undeletes under your OS and the FAT or FAT32 file system is likely to recover the data.
