Accidentally deleted photos on iPhone - recovery possible?

I accidentally deleted a number of photos on my iPhone before doing a backup, so iTunes wouldn't have them. Having had that happen to my laptop and camera before, I remembered there was software that would allow me to recover the deleted files, but the problem is, this only works if the iPhone is recognized as a letter drive by my computer, which it isn't. Is there any way to make that happen or am I pretty much hopeless?

Unfortunately the iPhone backup system - which is usually pretty good - doesn't back up photos. So doing a restore from a backup previous to the one you are talking about won't work.

I have it set to automatically sync photos with my photo library.. if yours is the same way, the photos could be there... but I would guess you'd know that so this is probably a dumb suggestion.

Beyond this one unlikely suggestion, I have no advice....

I'm sorry to hear you lost your photos. I tried to google up a way to produce a drive letter for an iPhone photo directory, but I couldn't find one.
