Accidentally bought a triple channel kit for Core i5

Alright so I got a 6GB triple channel kit from corsair. I was really dumb and didn't pay attention to the fact that Core i5 doesn't support triple channel. I know I can just put 2 of the sticks into my motherboard and get Dual Channel, since putting all 3 would give me single channel. So I have 2 options I see, buy 1 more stick and have 2 dual channel's, or sell the third off.

Here's my 2 questions.
1) Where the HELL do you buy a single stick of memory anymore?

2) And, even though my first question sort of answers this, would I be able to sell a single stick of the memory fairly easily?

Here's what I bought, for reference:

If I were you, I would keep the third for testing purposes. It never hurts to have a spare just in case. Blessing in disguise?

If this link works, Newegg lists several pairs of sticks that match the specs of your RAM for less than 2/3 the price shown at your link. Use their selection system to find single sticks.

Probably, but you may lose some money because you won't be selling a stick tested to match any other sitck. Your best bet is to try to return the RAM you bought and request a refund for the difference.

Good luck. :)

I would send it back but newegg has a 15% restocking fee, so that's $20 I'm losing by returning it. Then getting another set of 2 costs around $90, so I'm only really saving $20 bucks, considering I payed only $130 for the triple channel kit. I would rather buy a single stick of the same memory somehow, so I can use all 4 slots on my mobo, or just sell my third and make some money back.

I wouldn't sell the third no matter what you do. If you ever have to RMA it to corsair, they require all 3 sticks in the kit, even if only one is bad. If you sell the third, you are SOL. I say keep it for testing purposes.

Just install all 3, you already have it why not? Performance won't degrade that much (only when that 3rd stick is used, and only for that stick, as far as I know).

Send it back and eat the $20.
That's a very cheap educational expense.

Since the days of the Pentium 4 chips this hasn't really been an issue. If you install two matched chips they run in dual channel. If you then add another single stick the first two remain in dual channel and the third runs by itself in single channel mode. But you honestly won't see any difference and having the extra memory will yield much better performance if you ever push enough stuff to require >4GB of memory.

Buy another single stick if you're that worried about it.

Interesting...
When I RMA'd my Crucial double channel stick, they didn't require me sending the good one back, only the bad one.
Of course the benefit of sending both is that the pair they send you are garanteed to work together, but again they didn't requre me sending the other stick and I didn't send it.

If they'd require me to send both, that means I'd have to be without a computer for 2-3 weeks untill they finish their RMA testing and ship new sticks?

Fook that...

You should send both sticks in a matched pair. The OP purchased Corsair, I've not RMA'd with them so I don't know what they require.

You should have some spare around if you want to guarantee system uptime!
