When I restart my computer, some (most) of the time the monitor, mouse, keyboard won't power on. I assume its the mouse and keyboard also because there is no light under the mouse nor any lights on KB, any monitor LED light is orange. Sometimes however, it works fine. What does this mean? A problem with power supply? This never happened before I reformatted and reinstalled windowsxp.

Hi,

Just formatting and reinstalling won't affect what happens shortly after you switch on your computer, unless you managed somehow to change voltages etc.

Did you add any drives, or open the case for any reason.

If 'no' to all the above, see below.

Otherwise, I would suspect the psu or your powerswitch.

Well, I put in a new network card. It booted up after that however, I just restarted it because of Windows update, and it wont get back up again.

I can hear and see the fan spinning

Yea, same thing happens, no light on kb/mouse, and monitor starts at green, goes to orange before I can see anything. I've tried disconnecting things, trying, disconnecting more things, having only monitor plugged in, and still nothing.

Where did you get your computer?
What make is it?
For instance, if it is a Dell, it may or may not accept a standard psu.

If you got your computer within the last 5 or 6 years, it is almost certainly ATX or mATX, but there are other cases/board sizes as well.

Ordered it from newegg, its anAcer Aspire t180, parts in it are dated 2006, so it's recent. So it is probably ATX? inside the cover of the computer here is only one screw on the PSU case, ther is normally 4 I thought? However on the outside on the back there are 4 screws where the fan is.

Measure your W x D x H dimensions on the psu.
Most branded psu's should have their measurements on them, even though most are a sort of standard size.

Looks like it is a 250watt supply in there at the moment, so an upgrade would definitely be in order.
Its a mini tower, so it might not be a full size ATX psu.
Can't spend much more time researching it I'm afraid.
Anyway, do get a named brand - Antec, Tagan, Enermax etc.
Don't get the cheapest.
