Accessing the modem info page

My son-in-law's computer runs with a Motorola 5120 Surfboard cable modem which allows him to access IP 192.168.100.1 that shows a very detailed set of net info: upload and download bandwidths, signal levels up and down in dbm, signal to noise ratios etc. The IP 192.168.100.1 is not resolvable, so it is necessary to enter a route for it in the routers routing table:

"Find out what your router's IP address or its Default Gateway's IP address is - the router's status page should have this information and the IP usually starts with 67 or 68.

Find your router's advanced routing settings page and enter a new route like this:

Route Name : CableModem
Destination LAN IP : 192.168.100.1
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.255
Default Gateway : (enter your cable modems' or its default gateway's IP)

You should now be able to get to the info-page in your cable-modem and find out how good your connection is. "

My router is a D-Link DI-604 and my cable modem is Best Data CMS300V2. Try as I may (and I have tried for hours on end) I cannot access the net info page at 192.168.100.1.

Do any of you know if this is peculiar to my router/ cable modem? The information is invaluable and I would like to get to it -- enough I am thinking about replacing my modem with a Motorola 5120 if that would work.

I assume lots of Anand Techies have solved the problem of getting to this info. Your help would be much appreciated.

Many modems do not reveal the type of information you are seeing on your S-I-L's modem. My ADSL Alcatel modem does not, for example.

Get the Motorola.

Your router and cable modem cannot be set to the same address range, which I think is happening. You need to go into the config for your dlink router and change it from 192.x.x.x to 193.x.x.x
