Accessing one specific LAN IP from another LAN

Joe Schmuck

I have a almost complicated network setup going on and I'm trying to figure out how to access a specific IP address. Let me tell you my setup first:

1) Cable Modem provides 2 different WAN IP addresses. The one Ethernet cable is connected to a 5 port switch.
2) There are two wireless routers and the WAN ports are connected to the 5 port switch.
3) There is an 8 port switch which has one LAN port from each router connected to it and then the other ports run throughout my house.
4) My Routers are:
A) D-Link DIR-825 running stock firmware and has the LAN IP of 192.168.1.0, Subnet 255.255.255.0
B) WRT-54G running DD-WRT firmware and has the LAN IP of 192.168.2.0, Subnet 255.255.255.0

The purpose of my setup is I have an FTP server sitting on the WRT-54G router which is for public and private use and to ensure the people accessing that network could not access my home network which runs from the DIR-825 router. This works perfectly, no complaints at all.

What I'd like to do now is access the file server located at 192.168.2.50 from my home LAN 192.168.1.200.

I was thinking I could use a VLAN (I've never used a VLNA before so I'm not certain this is the proper use of one) in my DIR-825 but I did not see VLAN in the configurations. And I did previously run DD-WRT on this router however the wireless support has always had some issues so I was forced back to stock firmware. If VLAN is the proper way to go then I was thinking about OpenWRT but I have never used it so before I go investigate OpenWRT my questions are:

1) Can I use my current setup to achieve my goal? If so, a little guidance please.
2) If I must use VLAN, please indicate that for me and I guess I'll have to check into OpenWRT.
3) If I do go with OpenWRT, is it possible to feed two WAN connections into the DIR-825 and run it as two routers? This would eliminate the usage of my WRT-54G.
4) Or, can I use my WRT-54G using DD-WRT to replace both routers as indicated in question #3?

Sorry for all the questions, I may figure this out before I get an answer but with an ice storm coming I'm apt to not do anything for the rest of the evening.

Appreciate any and all advice.
