Is this possible?

I know 2K includes the Appletalk protocol. But I can't figure it out.

Anyone have experience doing this?

Did you load the apple sharing stuff in Windows? If you cant figure it out and cant figure out the documentation and cant understand enough to ask specific questions, maybe you should think about Dave. Its a program that gives Mac OS * the ability to connect to SMB shares.

OK, I have the appletalk protocol installed on a 2K Pro machine right now testing it. Eventually I'd like to implement it on my 2K server.

In the appletalk protocol properties box, the check box for "accept incoming protocols" is greyed out, but it looks checked. Below that the current Zone shows up in the pull down menu.

On my mac OS9 I cannot see it in the chooser and if I type in its IP address I get a "not found" error.

I'm looking for someone who might have done this before.

DAVE is a last resort. I may just end up moving my share to a snap server if I can't get this working.

Anyone?

We got it to work by setting up a ftp site on the local network... using cute ftp on the windows machine. Then when we wanted to transfer it, we logged on using some mac program we found on Tucows. Worked fine for the most part. There are some problems though, if you have any zipped files (binhex) when you transfer them to the windows machine and then back, something f's them up... Good luck... the only thing worse then trying to get macs and pc's to understand each other is trying to understand your girl... Frustrating as hell, everyone claims to have the answer but cannot give you a good, clear one, and the only way to "really" do it is expensive.

I'm pretty sure you need to be using a server version of Win2k to run file services for Macintosh. I have it running on my Advanced Server and it was very easy to set up. The Windows help system walks you right through it. I access the Win2k box from Macs running OS 8.1, 8.5, and 9.0 with no problems. Can also save MAc files on the 2k box without losing the stupid resource fork (i.e., Mac files don't get screwed up after being saved on the Win box).

Or else use DAVE on the Mac or PCMacLan on the 2k box. Each costs about $150, though.

uhm, I dont see how you could not get it setup, the help files built into win2k walk you through it step by step... which step did U begin having problems at?
