i want a free, and easy way that is secure. both machines run xp and i am familiar with ultravnc. should i just get the encryption plugin, change ports since 5900 is pretty well known and go at it? is there a better solution?

Most of the *VNC programs are about the same. Personally, I prefer XP's RDC, but I'm using W2K Pro at work, so I use UltraVNC to connect to my XP system at home.

There are also some (limited) free web base sevices offer by www.logmein.com and www.mywebexpc.com ( less well known than the widely adverstised Go to MyPC service. The free service of those won't let you tranfer files but I have found it handy .

thanks for the info, but i need a file transfer option so i may as use ultra instead of *VNC and a ftp setup. am i to assume that all things done within ultravnc are enctrypted? is file transfter too?

thanks
