gmail on android lets you use other email accounts...
That's not logging into gmail though, that's just using the Gmail app to log into a different account.

What I'm getting from the OP is that he wants to log into a non Google email (say hotmail) using his hotmail credentials using the Gmail web page.
Which isn't going to work.
I get all my emails through Gmail on the web but I log into gmail using a Gmail account then get Gmail to snuffle up my other emails. But you obviously need a gmail account to do that.

Tell you what OP tell us what comes after the @ in the email address you're using to try to log into gmail.

OK, so it sounds like the email on your device is coming from a different email address. Do you have another email address (live, hotmal, yahoo, etc) that also gets this email? In other words, what email address did you use when setting up the phone?

So if you go to your yahoo account on your desktop, do you see the same email as what's on your phone?

OK. So you have a Google account, not a Gmail account. Of course you can create a new Gmail account, but it won't necessarily be hooked to your Yahoo account unless you jump through some hoops (I think I couple posts mentioned how to do that).
