Accessing files from another HDD

Hey all,

So I have a laptop drive's OS that decided to corrupt. I've pulled it out and stuck it in an external USB enclosure and connected it to another machine so I can treat it as a slave and access the files on the drive.

However, a number of the files are in "Documents and Settings/Owner". How do I access those files? I know there's a way to release the permissions or give me permission to access those files... I've done it before but forgot. We're using XP Home on this, and XP pro on the machine I'm trying to access these files from. Ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Either reboot in Safe Mode, or disable Simple File Sharing. Then right-click the folder, choose Properties, go to the Sharing & Security stuff and hit the Advanced button. Now assign Ownership of the directory to an account on the rescue machine.

To disable Simple File Sharing on XP Pro, open My Computer and go to Tools > Folder Options, it's at the bottom.
