Access router settings w/o Internet?

I have a PC with a nic card in it, and a Linksys WRT54G. I'm trying to access the router settings. I have an ethernet cable coming from the Nic card, to the router. I've tried it in the Internet port, and the other ports. I'm unable to connect to the 192.168.1.1 in the windows browser.

Thats the best I can explain it, and I have no idea why it's not working. I think i've done this before.

Please help

You will need to connect your PC to one of the switch ports on your router (1 through 4), not the Internet port.
DHCP should already be enabled on the router, but just incase, give your PC a static IP address of 192.168.1.2 and 255.255.255.0 with a default gateway of 192.168.1.1 and primary DNS of 192.168.1.1. Then open your browser and connect to http://192.168.1.1 (make sure the instructions do not say to connect to a specific port such as http://192.168.1.1:81).

Put in the default password for the router and you should be able to configure things with no problem.

If all else fails, you can try to reset the router settings. Should be a little button on the router to do this.
