Access Point Creating additional network

Hi,

I have a netgear access point that is creating an unsecured network off of a secured netgear wireless router. How can I have it to either not create another network or how can I secure the new network it is creating?

Does the access point have to be in a certain mode? So far I have been unable to log in to the access point even when I jump on the unsecured network it creates.

I know it has been a while since I've posted on here but I had a great experience before. I hope everyone is well and thank you for reading.

Thats probably a guest network, connect to the device and turn off the guest network option.

You need to configure the access point.

Hmm, I'm having trouble logging into it. I can log into the router just fine but not the access point. Even if I plug the computer directly into the access point and type in the default IP, I am unable to get into it. Is there another method that I do not know of?

Well, what type of AP is it? Have you read the instruction manual as far as configuring it? Also, check your router to see if it's assigned the AP an IP address, if it has, you need to access it thru that IP. The default IP usually only works if the AP doesn't find a DHCP server.

The model is a Netgear Wireless WPN802. Even if I use a cord to plug it directly from the Access Point into my computer I am unable to log into the ap via the default IP address shown on the back of the AP itself. How could that be?

The computer needs to be configured with a static IP that is of the APs subnet, and you might need a crossover cable if none of the RJ-45 jacks is MDX.

I.e. if the IP on the AP is like 192.168.1.1. configure the computer to 192.168.1.10

Then change the AP root's IP to be of the subnet of the Router's core IP, and plug the AP with regular patch cable to the Router.
