Access is denied to folder on external drive

So I am trying to backup some data on a drive. The drive used to be a primary drive in a machine so I decided to hook it up externally to my desktop to backup some of the data. Only problem is I try to click on the user folder on the drive and it says access is denied. I know the username and password. How do i even use that information to get into that folder?

sorry i forgot to mention my os is windows xp pro and the os of the old primary drive is windows xp home.
