Access denied?

I was recently trying to organize my media (music, movies). I just cut the files I wanted to move and pasted them when I wanted them to go. When I was all finished I try to open up a music folder and an error came up saying "Access denied: Please make sure this file is not write-protected" or something along those lines. I get the same error whenever I try to play a file or try to open up a folder that I moved.

Does anyone know what's causing this problem? I have the feeling that the file never actually got moved to the new location, because when I pasted it into the new directory it finished copying the file much faster than it should have/usually does.

Things I've tried:
-Rebooting
-Running chkdsk
-Logging on as Administrator and accessing the file
-Accessing the file from the command prompt

What do you mean by s/w?

I'm not on the computer with the problem right now, so I'll see what the exact error is. I'm assuming how to check the event viewer is Googleable, I've never done it before.
