Access Denied! You are restricted from running the Internet Connection Wizard...Contact your network administrator for more information



I just got this error message on a friends pc while trying to create a new dial-up connection.

Its a home pc & is NOT on a network or networked to any other pcs.

How the heck or better yet, WHY the heck cant I access the Connection Wizard!

Win98
Explorer 5.5
56k dial-up modem

I tried uninstalline-re-installing IE 5.5 - NO LUCK
I removed dial up networking from windows setup in add/removed, rebooted & re-installed DUN - NO LUCK

WTF?

Any ideas?
Any at all?
I'm stumped & apparently so is tech support cuz theyre no help.

In win2k I would say you are logged in as a standard user and not an administrator. Not sure why win98 would lock you out like that.

if he canstill access the web then there's an updated internet connection wizard on the windows update site! may just solve your problem.

Try posting in the OS/Software/Tech Support forums. They're there for a reason...

WTF do you need the wizard for anyway?


just setup the DUN manually, then tell IE to use that as it's defaut connection... problem solved..

1st thing I tried, it wont connect.

I figured if I can get the wizard to work, itll change whatever settings have been modified & can get this thing back on track.

Im re-installing windows now.

I gave up any hope of solving this as I talked to 2 tech support guys & theyre lost too.

Still kinda wish I could have found out what it was though.

That was a bit of an odd situation I have never ran into b4.
