"Access Denied" when installing network card

Ok, i'm trying to reinstall everything on a VAIO laptop that was just formatted and had a fresh windows install. I've got everything going, except when i try to install the wi-fi card it goes to the very end of the install process, and then it tells me that there was an error ("Access Denied").

Any idea what this means, or how to.. get access?

xp pro. theres only one account though, and its administrator. and i've installed other hardware. i was thinking it might be something along the lines of the computer not wanting to read the pcmcia slots, but i don't have any other cards i can test out on it.
