All of a sudden I have 2 directories on one of my NTFS partitioned HDs that I cannot acces....XP simply reports...."ACCESS DENIED". This has happend on two separate occacions on the same HD. The first directory is empty and I created the second one since I could not access the first. The second directory worked fine and I have filled it with about 20 gigs of important files and now access to that directory is denied also. The second one became unavailable when I reinstalled XP....but I never put a password on that directory so I have no idea what is going on. All the files in the root directory are available as are the ones in a third new directory I had to create to put some files in.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on? I need to get these files off this HD. I would like to boot into DOS and simply move all the files to the root but since it is partitioned with NTFS I have no idea how to access the HD in DOS.

Any help would be greatly appreciated....I have been without these files for a couple of weeks and need to get them off as soon as posible.

Thanks

I have the same problem with a file ... it tells me some program is accessing the file when none is.
And I want to delete that goddamn file (it's just taking up 700MB).

... but I guess I will have to wait till I do a format.

Thanks for the replies.....and I have solved the problem.

It seems that I created these two directories on an XP install that I was using complex file sharing and a different user name. SInce the new install of XP is using simple file sharing I can no longer have access.....I came to me in a flash what was going on, so I just turned on complex file sharing, took ownership of the directories, gave "everyone" ownership, turned simple file sharing back on, and PRESTO!!!!!!!!!
