Access and quering for dates!!!

I have been working with computers for a while, but never with access. Now I have it and I am trying to get the hang of it. I have a short database but i can not find out how to do queries on dates. What i am trying to do is put in dates in m/dd/yyyy format then when something is do it warns me a mnth in advance. I have bought a microsoft selfhelp book, but that is for the very basics of the program.

So i guess my questions are:
Is this possible, and if it is how??
