Why didn't arctic cooling inc implement a DHES on these bad boys? Is it perhaps DHES was just a marketing scheme that didn't really work? I mean, if cards like the X1900 and 7800GTX produce so much heat, why do the accelero's just spew the heat absorbed by the fins of the heatsink back towards the vga converters...

Anyways, I am not bashing on arctic cooling's DHES... it just doesn't make sense to include it for cards that produce so much more heat then previous generations.

zalman VF700 does the same, but is still an excellent cooler

maybe they are assuming that people with the money to buy such cards, also have the money to provide good airflow in their case?

I know, it's just such a pity... :( BTW How much of a difference would this make with such GPU's? 5°C maybe? If so, then I think it's still acceptable... The reason to buy aftermarket coolers, is to benefit from lower GPU temps and have a more silent cooling solution... It still does so pretty well...

People want a single slot cooler, not a dual slot behemoth. I myself just want a quiet and effective cooling system, if that takes a Dual Slot solution so be it.

Good case ventilation isn't something you need to save up for. Anybody can do it with the proper placement/orientation of a couple 80mm fans. However, I also am unable to understand why Arctic Cooling went with a non-DHES design after years of venting GPU heat to outside the case. It's not as if today's GPUs are suddenly running cooler than previous generations. Personally, I'll take a DHES HSF over something that simply recirculates hot air inside my case.

Unfortunately, it's not only the GPU that has to use this hotter air now. Your CPU, northbridge, mosfets and power supply now all have to contend with increased air temperatures as well.

I too am sad about the new cooler. In some manner, I like the single slot cooler. As I couldnt put two Silencers on my GTX's, and have a sound card on my old DFI board. I changed motherboard in part for that reason, my new one has the space for two silencers, and a sound card.

Im pretty anal about getting the hot air outside the case, where it belongs. Ive setup my whole PC to get the cool air in, and the hot air out. Which is reason I like ATi's coolers (high end) much more than NV's. They exhaust the hot air out, not keep it swirling inside.

"Direct Heat Exhaust System" Simply put, it exhausts the hot air from the GPU, out of the case. Where it needs to be.

yup

bit like watercooling, it takes the heat away from where its made, and dumps it outside where it doesnt matter.

I recently looked at a review of the X2 and the reviewer said that it blows air on to the voltage regulators. So (apparantly) its good for a better overclock, if you have a decent case with 2 120mm fans going I wouldn't think it would be much of an issue that the heat is going into the case. The X2 is quieter that the old design too, and cools better if you look at the benchmarks in the review.

I don't have the link to the review but im sure you could google it

DHES is still a good idea though. Especially in HTPC cases where an extra fan helps out alot.

yah... its true performance wise the Accelero is way better and quieter, however, isn't it a dual slot cooler, DeathReborn? If I recall, it took up what looked to be two slots. I ono, I could be wrong.

I have been corresponding with Arctic Cooling on the issue of SLI slot configuration. I had to give up my NV Silencer beacuse I could not fit two of them. Arctic Cooling told me that you can fit two Acceleros in a SLI configuration where you only have one open slot in between the SLI slots.

I, too, wished they figure out how to implement DHES in the Accelero.

I've got news for you DHES will lowered my CPU temp by 1° and my chipset temp by 6°. Their DHES implementation makes their card coolers by far the best on the market.

actually my 7800GT's run much cooler than my single 6800GT im talkin 20degrees cooler. (that is untill i bought a VF700 for the 6800)

I'd like to see a UV Blue version of this cooler...

That would look pretty sick in SLI...

frankly, the "DHES" won't do much if u have decent air flow in your case. Would it really compare to the typical 80mm exhaust fan, or in my case, a 120mm exhaust fan? It didnt when installed one on my 9800pro, i recall putting my hand at the back and could barely feel any air being exhuasted. now, some folks said the newer silencer revisions are better than the older one i had for my 9800pro.:(

btw, a 1c degree drop in cpu temps is still within the margin of error, can't exactly praise the DHES for that.:/

Arctic Cooling Accelero GPU Coolers (X1/X2) review at Pureoverclock.com
The X1 and X2 are drastically different from the NV silencer range that ruled the earth before it. They have introduced heat pipe technology into the equation ? a first for GPU cooling.
Uh, hello? Anyone at Pureoverclock.com hear of Zalman? Thermaltake? Evercool? CoolerMaster? Those companies (and maybe more) have been putting out GPU coolers with heatpipes for years. Never had a Thermaltake, but used to have the original Zalman single heatpipe from back in the Geforce 4 Ti days with the funky gold colored heatsinks. Had a CoolerMaster CoolVIVA in a nice blue. Evercool is my current favorite passive cooler, dual heatpipes and benign neutral aluminum color.

Well I just put up a post the other day, actually thinking to getting some faster, stronger case fans, to help my Vid cards. I'm running two evga 7800 GTs, now I'm considering besides some stronger case fans, also getting this Accelero X1.

Has anyone used them and are there really pretty good, what's the word going around for them and is there anything better then the Accelero X1, that's for SLI?

THANKS

I don't understand either...

Between the stock 9800 Pro cooler and the VGA Silencer I lost about 1-2 degrees C in case temperature... But from the VGA Silencer to ATI Silencer, I've lost a good 3-4 degrees C in case temperature (apparently that big slab of aluminum sitting in my case acted like a heater for the rest of the case). So, yes, DHES does work (and it makes sense).
