Accelero S1 REV 2 Install and test on 8800GT

Well, I had two MSI 8800GT cards from the Dell deal. I sold one of them and bought an ECS 8800GT that comes with the Accelero S1. So, price of the ECS card was same as the MSI card plus the Accelero separately, plus there's a $50 MIR off that. Basically I saved $50.

Hey, I have a question. When you lay the S1 on the video card, how big of a gap is there between the white spacers and the video card board itself?

Quick question. I just installed my Accelero on my X1950 Pro. I've installed all the necessary heatsinks and they are firmly in place. The problem is, when I turn on my computer, I see a bunch of lines and what looks to be artifacting. It's a pattern that only shows up on certain screens. Like, it shows up on the main BIOS screen, but not on the SATA BIOS screen. In windows, it's almost non-existant except for a few stationary lines by the mouse pointer (and until you actually run any kind of DirectX/OpenGL program). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should start a new thread in Video Cards section. And first things to check are temperatures and whether or not it's seated correctly.

I have the same problem with my card. There's a few mm gap between the mounting arms and the PCB.

I just ordered one, and I was curious, how do you think it will perform with no fan in an Antec 900 case. With all those fan on low, churning air inside the case, will it be enough air movement to cool it so I dont need the turbo model? I am folding and I am getting tired of the fan whinning at 100% with an 80c temp. I hope this will solve my problem. Also how much of an of an oc increase are people seeing with this cooler on an 8800GT?

Depending on your room temperature, you'll probably still be hitting at least 70 C on passive mode, so it's better just to add a 120 mm fan on it.
As for the overclocking, you'll be seeing a slight improvement or maybe none at all. In my case for example, it improved my shader clock with 100 mhz over the stock cooler. This card responds better at overclocking with volt modding ( like probably any other card out there )

I got it and installed it today. This is the darndest thing I have ever seen. I am running an Antec 900 case and True Ex 120. I have two fans on the True Ex, and all other fans on low, except the large fan on the top. With the stock cooler on my BFG 8800GT my idle temps were 59C with the fan on 40%, and while folding and the fan on 95% my temps hit 84C. Now with the A S1, and no turbo modual or any other fans blowing on it, I idle at 38C and load at 48C while folding with the gpu on stock settings.
I have always been able to run the core at 750 and shaders at 1879 with no volt mod. My memory however could not go past 945. I was able to run ATI tool set to 750/1879/1000 for 45 minutes before I got a BSD instead of the driver stopped responding error. Temps never broke 51C the whole time. My room temperature is about 75F.
The only downsides to this cooler and case combo I have is the front usb cable is not long enough to get plugged in around this cooler. I need to see if I can get a cable extention or make one myself. I also had to remove the 120mm fan from the side of the case, it would not fit with the A S1 installed. Be carefull if you put the clips on. I knocked off one of the memory chip coolers. I was able to use some tweezers to straighten it and press it back down. So far its holding.
The only other thing I can say it silence is golden. Even my wife was impressed how quiet the computer is now.

Edit:Correction, it was my firewire that could not be hooked up. Since I dont use firewire, I guess I dont have a problem with this.

I've attached a photo just to show how close the gfx card's cooler and my audio card are atm...as you see i havent got much room there,and the mobo(aw9d-max) doesnt help much in re arranging pci cards.

anyone know exactly the dimensions?

Passive it's a two slot cooler. Put a fan on it, and it's a three slot cooler.

Talk about resurrecting an old through though

but as i searched around...it still is the best air solution for vga coolers
and as i saw the zalman vf830-alcu cooler,which is the stock coller for gigabyte8800gt
is 160x100x30mm and the accelero is 158x215x33mm.....these 3mm will prolly prevent me from installing it

Why would 3mm prevent you from installing it. It's a two slot cooling solution. Your sound card does not extend (or should not) into adjacent PCI slots (above or below) and the Accelero extends no further than two PCI slots.

It does look like the sound card has really sloppy hole through components, none look trimmed, but if they're really extending out that far they can be clipped easily enough.

The heatpipes are sorta flexible too, you could bend it a little flatter against your video card.

Does the sound card even have to be where it is? What's with that Zalman fan thing anyway.

well i think i'm gonna have to take out the ruler and measure :sneaky: before i order it. And no the sound card doesn;t extend into the upper pci-e slot but the gfx cooler and the sound card are almost attached atm.
I guess the measure will show

Well, the sound card is a pci-e card,the mobo only has one normal pci slot,and underneath the sound card is an SAS raid card and then the zalman sys cooler
