Accelero S1 REV 2 Install and test on 8800GT

Today I got around to installing my Accelero S1 REV 2 Cooler. I tested it without a fan to see how it performed. I have a Antec P180 case with the fans set to lowest setting... The 8800GT i have is first rev with the old fan and I updated the bios. Running Vista 64

The Accelero S1 REV 2 does not come with VR heatsinks so I bought Thermalright 8800GT PWM ramsink kit

First thing I did was clean the memory and GPU with Arctic Silver ACN-60ML. I used step 1 three times and step 2 twice. Then I cleaned them all with alcohol to make sure they were spotless.

Heatsinks except 1 installed

The memory heatsinks actually sticked...... Which was good. Then I installed the Accelero S1

Accelero S1 REV2

Pretty easy install....

So now for the tests

STOCK COOLING:
idle: 64c
load (ati tool): 100c (ouch)

ARCTIC COOLING no fan with rear exhaust fans at lowest speed:
idle: 53c
load (ati tool): 80c

ARCTIC COOLING no fan with rear exhaust fans at medium speed:
idle: 47c
load(ati tool): 64c

ARCTIC COOLING no fan with rear exhaust fans at full speed:
idle: 43
load (ati tool): 56c

I am impressed with the performance. I might eventually buy the turbo module to increase its performance, but even without the turbo module it is outperforming my stock cooling

very nice!

Heres what I've got

HR-03GT with 120mm Yate Loon

Stock
Idle: 55
Load: 95

New Cooler
Idle: 39
Load: 55

I bet if I installed a fan I would get much better results

I also noticed when uploading the pics that I forgot to install one of the heatsinks that came with the thermalright kit and the stock HS cools. Thankfully I could install it without taking the Accelero off.

Still hot (but its passive!), but so far I am impressed. If I decide to overclock, I will install a 120mm fan and retest.....

I've added an 120 mm fan at 1000 rpm, and temperatures are 38 C/ 48C. The accelero is pure sex man.

did you test it before adding the fan? is 77c under load normal for a passive accelero with low air flow in the case?

What fan did you use error8? How kind of airflow do you have in your case?

Makes me wonder if I have the thing installed wrong. Fan decreasing temps by almost 30C is crazy.

I did tighten the screws in the 3-2-4-1 order they wanted me to. Maybe I should redo it? Or maybe with the low airflow in my case, a fan would really help that much.

I haven't test it without the fan. I'm using a TITAN model like I said at 1000 rpm. The airflow in my case is good but not fantastic, I do have a 80 mm fan blowing fresh air right into the card though. I guess your card temperature is normal, being passively cooled, but try attaching a fan onto it, it's way better. And yes, you should be able to see a 30 C decrease in temps.
Before installing the accelero, I had 55 / 86 C, so my card seems to run a bit cooler then yours on stock cooler.

I increased my rear exhaust fans (both, the one at the rear and at top) to max speed.

temps under load (ati tool): 56c 😛

of course its extremely loud and negates the point.

So you see, even the slightest breeze of air over the accelero cools the monster so well. 🙂

I have been running ATItool error check for 2hours now with my case fans at lowest setting and no errors. YAY! 🙂

Well worth the money.

low flow rear case fan + nexus 92 or yateloon D12SL12 at low rpm on the heatsink = very low noise with very excellent performance

I would love to install it on my GT but the size is the concern. I am pretty sure that I will have to take my side panel fan off the case, which I really don't want to. 🙁

Hey OP, thanks for the pics and test results. I'm thinking of doing the same thing. Currently using an 8800GTS in my main rig and that's the noisiest part of the system. Got an 8800GT and was going to put the S1 on there passively and replace the 8800GTS.

I'm wondering though... anyone who has the turbo module... how noisy is it? I'm not talking about sones or decibels, I'm talking about can you hear it over the rest of your system - if your system is already near silent.

Silentpcreview recently did a review of the Accelero S2 with the Turbo module and their conclusions:

"The Turbo Module is quiet, effective, and only occupies the space of one extra expansion slot. If space is limited, it's a good choice over strapping your own fan to the S1/S2. Quiet, 15mm depth fans are basically unheard of."

I did this same thing this last weekend, except I didn't have any VR heatsink to use. Is one needed? It seems to run fine without one, but I haven't done any aggressive overclocking. I'm thinking about OCing the card some more, but don't want to risk any damage if those VRs need some sort of heatsink.

Anyway, the Accelero is awesome. I've got a Nexus 120mm fan strapped to mine and it lowered the idle temps by nearly 30C. Even overclocked to 720 MHz from the card's factory setting of 650 MHz the idle temp is still about 13C lower than using the stock cooler at stock speeds. And it's near dead silent even with the 120mm fan. I can crank the Nexus to full speed and hear no audible difference from my normal sitting position. Maybe I can hear something if I put my ear right next to the case, but that's it.

I just installed a scythe S-FLEX Sff21D 800RPM fan on the Accelero. This fan is pretty much SILENT but it moves very little air. Its perfect for the accelero though, because it dropped my temperatures from 80c at full load to 51c at full load. Thats a 29c drop in temperature!

Very nice. I can't wait to get mine installed. Just waiting on the new case (Cooler Master 690) to arrive as the existing one doesn't provide enough clearance.
