Simply out, Acceleros blow! They will be out of the market soon...

They took a calculated risk and lost -- forcing their BTX coolers on ppl!

I regularly see AC coolers for 9 bucks now, and nobody is buying them. Let them die in peace! :)

WTF? The Arctic Cooling X2 is one of the best after market X1800/X1900 coolers you can buy.. much better than the Zalman VF900 which costs like twice as much.

Yea you see old Nvidia FX and 9000 series AC coolers for 9 bucks... which is a steal for how good they perform.

Acceleros are designed for BTX cases, not ATX. They lost the advantage of exhausting heat from the case, dumping it on the motherboard and chipset instead. And, from what I've read, they work about the same as factory reference coolers, so what's to like about them -- nostaglia? -- like Dick Clark at the Emmys? :)

*edit*

In case you think I'm BSing you...

Fully Crossfire and BTX compatible
The Accelero 2 is Crossfire compatible with all mainboards and offers in such a configuration exactly the same performance.

In contrast to our ATI Silencers, the Accelero is 100% BTX compatible, thus a DHES is not possible/necessary anymore. The hot air is removed by the BTX airflow.

Sounds like user error. I've got a X2 on my X1800XT and it works just as well as the stock cooler with 100% fan.

To VinDSL, What other heatsink exausts heat outside the case? Almost all of after-market coolers circulate heat inside the case. Plus the X2 is very quiet (much more so than the VF900 at 12V).

And just because it supports BTX doesn't mean performance isn't still great in ATX cases...

I noticed when attempting to install the accelero on the X1900 AIW it would hit the gold tv tuner box. Enough so that it would cause the card to physically bend if installed completly screwed down.
It would be easy enough to mod the metal plate on the cooler with a dremel. But to answer your question it will not work safely out of the box on a x1900 AIW.

Right, but the CPU cooler doesn't directly affect the chipset cooling much. With the direction the accelero exhaust is pointed alot of that hot air has to go by the chipset before getting pulled out the rear case fan, thus increasing the chipset temps. Some people have reported a fair increase in chipset temps from that. Now it does depend on the layout of the mobo as to how much it will affect it.

DHES is the best for GPUs IMO, and if it could be done effectively with CPUs that would be great as well but that isn't as easy. My CNPS9500 comes a little closer to DHES than most CPU coolers though.

This user at Xtremesystems.org reported higher CPU temps with the Zalman:

The Accelero does cause hotter motherboard chipset temperatures because the fan is designed to cool the voltage regulators at the end of the video card too.
