Thank GOD the people at least know something about animated movies. Howl's Moving Castle, Tim Burton's Corpse Bride, and Wallace & Gromit were all nominated for best animated feature. No Madagascar -- or computer generated film -- in sight!

It just goes to show you DON'T need CG to make a great film. Sure, I love Pixar as much as the next guy, but that's because they actually make great films, not good-looking CG films.

For some strange reason, I'm also glad that Revenge of the Sith got nominated for best makeup.

Brockback mountain sure got a lot of nominations. maybe i should watch it.

I can't believe Cinderella Man didn't get best picture nods.

The list gets a resounding "Meh" from me.

I've only seen: Batman Begins, March of the Penguins, Star Wars, and the Harry Potter movie. The only other ones I'm interested in are: Walk the Line and Munich.

I can. I admit I have not seen it but from the previews and what I have heard, it sounds like the film was made JUST to win awards. Come on, ANOTHER boxing film. We got rocky and unless it has a major twist like million dollar baby, then move along. Maybe the awards people saw the film for what it is.

But yea I kinda like to see brokeback mountain as well. I have heard its really good.

Pride and Prejudice was great, as was Howl's.
Not sure why History of Violence got any nominations, it was utter rubbish IMO.
Of everything I've seen this year (only ~6 I think), it would have to be Pride and Prejudice as the best, Howl's was very good, but a bit too weird to be a top pick.

First time in a while I didn't think a totally undeserving film got nominations. I'd have taken Crash out and put in Junebug, The Constant Gardener, or Syriana though.

Cindarella Man was a good popcorn flick but not in the same league as something like Capote or Good Night and Good Luck. Anyway, don't feel too bad, I have a sinking feeling in my gut that tells me Paul Giamatti will win for Cindarella Man even though Clooney and Dillon are more worthy.

I agree that animated film got it right. But I don't think that corpse bride is in the same league as the other two.

If Heath Ledger wins best actor that will be a travesty. All 4 of the other nominations are more worthy.

I don't know how Fernando Meirelles was overlooked as best director, but I guess that's how Oscar works, best pic = best director usually. But he was better than all 5 of the nominated directors.
