I wish the University of Washington would walk next door to MS and get us some deals. Our bookstore sells everything at "competitive academic prices," which basically means that we pay more for MS stuff than most other schools.

As for getting your school to hook it up with MS, there's MSDNAA. I looked into it once, and it's something like $800 for your department per year. Don't quote me on that though, I'm sure it varies by circumstance.

Well, it cost the CalState Universities, $8 million for a 4 year agreement. Keep in mind though this was for everyone in all 22+ campuses, staff AND students and lab computers, etc. Basically when you pay the $20 you are just paying the media costs, since MS has already been paid for the software.

So if your school has lots of extra money hanging around... :)

And, I know this is a very long shot, but does anyone know if RIT (Rochester, NY) offers the same type of discount?
and those goddamn bastards at RIT don't care enough to sign up.

Not quite,
quote: "Membership in the MSDN Academic Alliance is on a per-department basis, rather than school-wide. Appropriate departments within accredited academic institutions in the United States and publicly-funded institutions in Canada are eligible for MSDNAA membership."
Also: "$799 (USD) annual membership fee per department."

Also, it only includes Windows XP some other stuff:
"Visual Studio Professional
Microsoft Project Professional
Windows XP, Windows 2000, and other Microsoft operating systems
.NET Enterprise Servers: Windows servers, SQL Server, Exchange Server, Commerce Server, BizTalk Server, Host Integration Server, Systems Management Server, Sharepoint Portal Server, and several others
Microsoft Visio Professional"

So it doesn't have office XP for instance.
