maybe someone posted this deal, but I am too lazy to do detail check on it.

I just got a acdamic priced windowxp upgrade for 25 dollars in my school (csuf), which only include the cd and cd code with nothing else, but I think it is pretty good deal. I think there are some other cal states doing it.

so check with your school to see if you can have such deal.
P.S. I get to keep the CD.

Got $6 copy of WinXP Pro, full version, legit serial but OEM (oh well). I belive Microsoft has some deal with schools to sell cheaper copies. And the price varies, b/c I know for Universitites of Texas the software is subsidised further through state and private grants.

I read somewhere that Cal state schools have a contract with microsoft till the end of this year. But they could renew it.

Although there's a certain irony in misspelling "academic", thanks for the post !

Yep, Indiana University was the originator of this deal with Microsoft. In return for a fee, IU can use as many of the MS products as needed, and can sell copies of their software to the students and faculty. This is not for EVERY MS title but for a good deal of the popular ones.

But of course its not really that cheap, you're paying the rest in your tuition. :frown:

I go to Indiana University Southeast and we (read just my school, not all IU schools) pays MS $30,000 yearly for this.

Good deals, I wish my school had something like this. My schools online bookstore just links to journeyed and I don't recall seeing any software in the BM.

Nope diegoalcatraz, RIT screws us. $28k and we have to pay full academic pricing for software, whereas schools costing 1/2 that get it for free....

Thanks, but that is the "other" Washington! I'm talking about the one surrounded by wheatfields.

(PS: I'm asking for my son at WSU who sometimes needs a little help finding these deals.)

Somewhat of a repost, at least as it relates to CalState universities :)

How do schools get discounts from Microsoft? How can I ask my school to get these deals from Microsoft?

It is an agreement between the university and Microsoft known as the Microsoft Campus Agreement.

This agreement typically fall under msdnaa, or the campus-wide licensing scheme as mentioned above. if it's for personal use, it's most likely mdsnaa. Costs the school $500 per college.
And, I know this is a very long shot, but does anyone know if RIT (Rochester, NY) offers the same type of discount?
and those goddamn bastards at RIT don't care enough to sign up.
