I know the AC97 is mereley adequate, but that is all I want. But not what I am getting...K7s5a board with onboard AC97 is
horrid crackling during most audio play. Particularly games. Any thoughts? I have updates drivers from ECS. Win2k with all
updatates/TBird1.4/512DDR.....

thanks,

You're not using a PCI video card are you?

If not, try moving the powered speakers to a different outlet.

AC97 sound *sigh* ... you have SiS 7012 chipset integrated sound there. OK, the processed (!) sound data travel through an AC97 codec, but at that point all the work has been done already. Or would you call a SoundBlaster Audigy an AC97 sound just because it uses AC97 codecs?

Crackling sound mostly is a problem of some other device taking too much bus time - bet you're running an IDE device in PIO mode?!
