AC97 PCI sound built into the mainboard....What the #$*% is it?

or if it's an intel based chipset, go to the intel website... they don't make the sound chip i don't think, but i'm sure theres info there...

Hey Yo Mamma,
The other 2 posters gave you some good info, hope it is helpful. I just wanted to interject a general rule to those out there who may find themselves in a situation like yours. It goes as follows:
The harder it is to find information on a POS, the less you should want to do with the SOB. ( Snakepoop )

If its an Intel chipset, that it is more than likely a flavor of ADI SoundMax (1881, 1885, etc). Or it could also be an ESS chip as well. If you look on the motherboard, somewhere around the slots, if you see a smallish, square chip with a little triangle in a box, its ADI. If you see a fairly large chip, there will either be an ESS stamp or possible Creative Labs stamp on it. Most Via chipsets use a Via codec based solution (a similar small chip like the ADI).

Hope this helps! 🙂
