AC97 onboard sound: can i increase the volume for headphone use?

This is a question for a friend. He is using the ECS K7S5A. when he uses the headphones the sound is very low. I know this is a crappy sound chip, but there must be a way to increase the volume for the headphones. And yes, everything is cranked from the volume icon in the taskbar tray.
